Don’t Wait Until Retirement to Start Living

I just got back from New York City with my son, and it was a trip I’ll never forget.

We explored the city, climbed what felt like endless subway stairs, and spent our evenings enjoying baseball games together. By the end of each day, my legs were sore. Those subway stairs reminded me that I’m not as young as I once was.

But here’s the thing…

I don’t regret a single step.

Every aching muscle was worth the memories we made.

That trip made me think about how often people say, “I’ll travel when I retire.”

Maybe they will.

But maybe they won’t.

What if life has different plans? What if our health changes? What if we never make it to retirement? None of us knows what tomorrow will bring.

I’m not saying don’t save for retirement. We absolutely should. But I also believe we shouldn’t put our lives on hold while waiting for a future that isn’t guaranteed.

The memories I made with my son in New York are worth far more to me than a few sore legs. Years from now, I won’t remember how tired I was after climbing those subway stairs. I’ll remember laughing together, cheering at baseball games, exploring a city that never sleeps, and sharing experiences that brought us closer.

Those are the moments that matter.

In fact, I’m already planning next year’s vacation.

Not because I’m ignoring the future—but because I’ve learned that the best time to make memories is while you still can.

Money can be saved.

Time cannot.

If there’s a trip you’ve been dreaming about, don’t keep pushing it to “someday.” Take the vacation. Make the memories. Spend time with the people you love.

One day you’ll never wish you had worked more.

But you’ll always be grateful for the moments you shared with the people who matter most.
