Have you ever really looked at a rose?
Not just smelled it or admired it for a second, but actually looked at it?
There are so many kinds of roses. So many colors. Some are bright red, some soft pink, some yellow, white, orange, and even shades that seem to blend into one another.
And I started thinking…
Maybe life is a lot like a rose.
We are all different.
Some of us bloom early in life. Others take a little longer.
Some people seem to have everything figured out while the rest of us are still trying to understand where we belong.
Some roses grow perfectly straight. Others lean a little to one side. Some have perfect petals, while others have petals that are damaged around the edges.
But we still call them roses.
We still see their beauty.
Maybe we should look at ourselves the same way.
The different colors remind me of the different parts of life.
Red can be the love we have experienced—the kind that stayed and even the kind that broke our hearts.
Yellow can be friendship, laughter, and those beautiful people who appear in our lives when we need them most.
Pink can be tenderness, kindness, motherhood, and all those quiet moments of love that sometimes mean more than the big ones.
White can represent peace—the peace so many of us spend years trying to find.
Orange can be excitement, adventure, and those moments when we decide to take a chance and truly live.
But then there are the thorns.
We can’t forget those.
Every rose has them.
Life does too.
Heartbreak. Disappointment. Loneliness. Losing people. Family problems. Financial struggles. Mistakes. Regrets. Days when we wonder how much more we can handle.
Those are our thorns.
And sometimes they hurt.
Sometimes they even leave scars.
But here’s what I find beautiful about a rose:
We don’t throw away a rose because it has thorns.
We don’t look at a beautiful bouquet and say, It’s worthless because there are thorns underneath those petals.
We accept the whole flower.
So why are we so quick to believe that our lives aren’t beautiful because they have problems?
Maybe the difficult chapters don’t erase the beautiful ones.
Maybe the scars don’t erase who we are.
Maybe the thorns are simply part of the rose.
And just like roses, we all bloom differently.
Some of us may be blooming right now.
Some of us may have lost a few petals.
And some of us might be going through a season where we can’t imagine ever blooming again.
But seasons change.
New roses grow.
New colors appear.
And life continues.
So today, if you’re looking at your life and seeing nothing but the thorns, look a little closer.
There may still be a beautiful rose there.
Life isn’t beautiful because it has no thorns.
Life is beautiful despite them. 🌹
