Receiving devastating news, especially a medical diagnosis, is something no one can ever truly prepare for. It’s the kind of news that takes your breath away, turns your world upside down, and changes everything in a matter of seconds.
Suddenly, life becomes filled with questions, fears, and decisions you never imagined having to make. What happens next? What treatment is best? How will this affect my family? Will I be okay?
And perhaps the hardest question of all… What if something happens to me? What will happen to the people I love?
One of our closest friends recently received the devastating news that she has breast cancer. Thankfully, it was caught in its early stages, and we are holding on to that hope. But an early diagnosis doesn’t erase the fear, the uncertainty, or the emotional weight of hearing the word cancer.
Just a week before, she was happy, making plans, enjoying life, and looking forward to the future. Then, in one moment, everything changed. The plans, the excitement, the everyday worries suddenly became secondary to something much bigger.
I understand a little of what she is going through because I, too, once received a cancer diagnosis. Thankfully, mine turned out to be a misdiagnosis. But I will never forget what I felt in those moments when I believed it was real.
My first thoughts weren’t about myself. They were about my son, my family, and the people I love. My mind immediately went to all the what-ifs. The fear of the unknown, the anxiety of appointments, the waiting, the endless thoughts that keep you awake at night.
Even though my story had a different ending, those feelings were real. And they gave me a glimpse into the emotional journey that so many people facing cancer must endure.
There is fear. There is sadness. There are moments of helplessness. There are questions without immediate answers.
But there is also faith.
Faith that gives us strength when we feel weak. Faith that carries us through the darkest moments. Faith that reminds us that even when we cannot control what happens tomorrow, we can hold on to hope today.
I know that my friend’s journey will not be easy. There will be difficult days, decisions, treatments, and moments when fear feels overwhelming. But I also know that she will not walk this road alone.
We will be there to listen, to cry, to pray, to hold her hand, and to remind her how deeply she is loved.
Experiences like these remind us just how fragile life can be. One day, we are making plans for tomorrow, and the next, we are praying for more tomorrows.
Never take your health, your family, or the ordinary moments of life for granted.
To my dear friend, I pray that God gives you strength when you feel tired, peace when fear takes over, courage for every decision ahead, and healing throughout this journey.
You are loved beyond words, and you are not alone.
Cancer may change the journey, but it cannot take away our love, our faith, or our hope. 🎀🙏❤️
